The Soup Spoon was founded in 2012 by husband and wife team Chhaya and Brianne. Both lovers of good food, we were inspired by Chhaya’s mother’s cooking, and we set out to share a taste of Cambodia with Rochester. The original Victor location opened its doors in April of 2012, and our second location opened in the new Collegetown development on Mt. Hope Ave in March 2014.  We truly enjoy introducing people to new food and sharing our family’s story with customers.

Although the first restaurant was opened in 2012, the real story beings over 30 years ago. Chhaya’s family, originally from Battambong, Cambodia, was forced to flee their home during the communist regime of Pol Pot and relocated to Rochester after spending time in a refugee camp in Thailand. They were forced to leave everything behind, but were able to start over and build a life here.

Their story is truly amazing, and although they have been witness to unspeakable horrors, they continue to see the good in the world. Our restaurants serve as a tribute to our family, and we feel privileged to be able to share it with our customers!
